This Spring Scale Flash applet was developed as an educational tool. This is somewhat simpler to use than the Virtual Triple Beam Balance, but it serves a similar purpose. If you have already used the Triple Beam Balance then you will be right at home with this, but if not, it probably won't hurt to read the following simple instructions. BTW, the images below are just to point you in the right spot, they deliberately don't zoom to a bigger picture. When you are ready, click on the picture of the spring scale to the left to open up the application. |
To weigh objects, drag them to the pan. You can weigh multiple objects at a given time. |
Choose objects from the collection to the right. Again, you can use combinations of objects. |
There is even a mystery object. When you drag it onto the pan, it takes on a random mass value. Just dragging it to a different spot on the pan won't change the value. Drag it off and then back on to change its mass value. |
You can read the mass in either grams or ounces on the scale portion of the device. |
Don't forget to zero the spring scale before you use it or else your results will not be valid. |
